Meet Gretchen

In 1982, Gretchen Ehresmann, a dedicated physician, moved to Northfield and began a lifelong journey of service. At the town’s only family practice clinic, she cared for patients from all walks of life, including many supported by Laura Baker Services Association. Through those early connections, she developed a lasting bond with the organization and its mission.

Years later, that connection deepened when her youngest granddaughter was born with Prader-Willi Syndrome. Now retired, she has more time to devote to the causes close to her heart. She joined the Laura Baker Board of Trustees, serving on the trusteeship committee and helping plan the board’s annual retreat. Her leadership helps ensure the organization continues to thrive.

Her service extends well beyond Laura Baker. She’s also an active board member of WINGS (Women in Northfield Giving Support), which has donated over $1.4 million to support women and youth in the Northfield area over the past 25 years.

Her story is filled with meaningful moments – from reconnecting with former patients like Elise, who proudly introduced her as “my doctor” at a local book sale, to attending community events that celebrate the lives and accomplishments of Laura Baker clients.

Her husband, John, shares her commitment. A longtime Red Cross volunteer, he’s contributed over 10,000 hours across 45 disaster relief missions, setting up essential technology systems in times of crisis.

Despite a full calendar, she finds joy in simple pleasures – helping care for her grandchildren, traveling, doing yard work and attending hippotherapy sessions with her granddaughter.

Her message is one of hope and shared responsibility: “We all need to take care of each other. Every little action counts and can inspire others to action.”

Through quiet dedication and meaningful action, she reminds us all of the power of community – and the difference one person can make.
