Semi-Independent Living

margiecalaatgala.jpgLaura Baker Services is a SILS provider dedicated to helping people 18 years of age or older with developmental disabilities live independently through training, counseling, instruction and supervision.

Typical Areas of Training:

  • Budget and money Management
  • Meal planning, preparation and diet management
  • Apartment/home maintenance
  • Socialization
  • Community access
  • Skills assessment
  • Shopping skills
  • Personal health care
  • Personal appearance and hygience
  • Coping skills and behavior
  • Developing social, recreational, and transportation plans
  • Rights and responsibilities of community living
  • Personal safety and emergency training
  • Accessing community resources
  • Telephone and utility usage
  • Individually contracted services may include: educational services, follow-up services after discharge for the program, leisure time training, on-going social training, 24 hour on-call emergency service, and independent skills assessments.

    Clients usually receive 10 to 30 hours of direct assistance each month. Semi-Independent Living Services are licensed by the Minnesota Department of Human Services under the Consolidated Rule.
