What is the Art Program?

“The Art Program works to enrich the individual and community life of clients and staff, by providing opportunities to make art and learn from each other through shared creative experiences.

Rooted in the LBSA mission of respecting the life choices and dreams of people with developmental disabilities — the Art Program supports self-resilience, while encouraging humor, relaxation, and growth for everyone involved.”

Martin L Thorsheim, LBSA Artist-in-Residence

Opportunities through the Art Program:

Art Workshops

Art Workshop 2008.11.008Usually held in Millis Hall, this is a social event built on working with one’s hands — and open to all clients served by LBSA.  Art Workshops are held one Saturday per month, usually following the week of new staff orientation.  The Workshops offer 3-5 separate art activities or collaborative projects such as mural painting or making a large sculpture.  Some activities allow for clients to make something to keep, while group projects get displayed throughout the LBSA campus.

Individual Art Sessions

Regularly scheduled client time working one-to-one with the LBSA Artist-in-Residence (on the Oak Street campus).

Art Groups

Art Groups can include all the clients and staff on a House (at Oak Street campus approximately every two weeks).

Staff Involvement

Great opportunities to build relationships with clients.
