What is the Art Program?

“The LBSA Art Program works to enrich the individual and community life of clients and staff, by providing opportunities to make art and learn from each other through shared creative experiences.

Rooted in the LBSA mission of respecting the life choices and dreams of people with developmental disabilities — the Art Program supports self-resilience, while encouraging humor, relaxation, and growth for everyone involved.”

LBSA Artist-in-Residence, Martin Thorsheim

A collaborative Art & Music Workshop,  co-led by LBSA’s Artist-in-Residence and Music Therapist.

Opportunities through the Art Program:

Art Workshops

Usually held in Millis Hall, this is a social event built on working with one’s hands.  The Workshops offer 3-5 separate art activities or collaborative projects such as mural painting or making a large sculpture.  Some activities allow for clients to make something to keep, while group projects get displayed throughout the LBSA campus.

A popular auditory/sensory/painting instrument: brand new sink-plungers.

Individual Art Sessions

Regularly scheduled client time working one-to-one with the LBSA Artist-in-Residence (on the Oak Street Services campus).

Art Groups

Art Groups can include all the clients and staff on a House (at Oak Street campus approximately every two weeks).

Staff Involvement

Great opportunities to build relationships with clients & develop skills of leadership and project planning.
