Public Policy Research for Family Support Services Intern  

Description: Family Support Services has been a recent initiative of Laura Baker Services Association to provide respite care and support services for families of children with disabilities. Family Support provides training as well as recreational activities, identifies appropriate services, and is an advocate for these families. Laura Baker has discovered that the need for this service is enormous. Challenges include lack of funding and little recognition at a state or federal level. We would like to provide a highly motivated intern with a dynamic opportunity to make a difference in this wide open field by assisting with policy and funding research and program development. This is an upaid intern position for 8-24 hours per week with a possible commuting stipend.

Responsibilities: Research current, and/or develop new public policy initiatives that authenticate the services and create mechanisms to help families pay for the services. Write grants to fund the project. Create a community coalition (social service agencies, churches, families, school staff members) to centralize efforts. Create family-centered activities at the farm (weekend camping trip, bonfires, etc.)

Qualifications: Graduate and undergraduate students majoring in the areas of public policy, social work, law and related fields.

QMRP BA Internship: Qualified Mental Retardation Professional – Behavior Analyst

Description: Oak Street Services of Laura Baker is a non profit ICFMR residential facility providing 24 hour care to 30 people with developmental disabilities. Laura Baker specializes in caring for individuals with dual diagnosis of DD and mental illness. The purpose of this internship is to provide professional extensive experience in creating and evaluating programs for people with developmental disabilities using objective standards in order to provide active treatment in accordance with each person’s ISP and IPP.  The QMRP – BA conducts quality assurance assessments and provides feedback to ensure continuous quality improvement of services. This is an unpaid intern position for 24-30 hours per week.

Responsibilities: Recommending and writing program goals, writing and revising behavior programs, providing training to staff in area of expertise, reviewing program data, conducting quality assurance visits, and identifying staff training needs. Attend staff meetings as assigned supervisor.

Qualifications: Undergraduate students majoring social work, behavior analysis, and human services related fields.
